Favorite Jane Austen novel: | Pride & Prejudice |
Second favorite JA novel: | Emma |
Favorite JA adaptation: | NA2 (2007) |
I've been an addicted P&P fan ever since my teenage years some 30+ years ago. My greatest pleasure was to be able to read it in the original as soon as my study of the English language had endowed me with the necessary linguistic skills. I was equally enraptured to discover Jane Austen's other novels, which I've read all and repeatedly over the course of time. "Emma", "Persuasion" and "Northanger Abbey" are my second favourites, at a par.
It might be quite unusual to denote NA 2007 as the favourite adaptation, but it IS the one where I like absolutely everything. Of course I love P&P 1995 and P&P 2005, very much so, but in both I find some things to criticize, and therefore I must pick NA to be the perfect adaptation. But I also do love "Emma 2009", as well as the adaptation with G.Paltrow & J.Northam, and "Persuasion 1995".
And I will boldly confess that I love-love-love "Lost in Austen", despite its wreaking havoc with JA's plot and separating my favourite couple, but in vain I have struggled, coz I have been utterly, completely and incandescently bewitched by the ultimate Darcy: Elliot Cowan, who has "floated my boat" (Amanda's expression) and therefore my feelings won't be repressed and compel me to tell how ardently I admire him.
