In the deepest whispers

I smiled at you, my dearest friend
As you lay in another man's wake
While easy laughter to him you send
But, I close my eyes for your sake

Never will you know the passion
That resides in my weary heart
Sadly, it can never be rationed
Though, I have tried from the start

Being all as I may well be
    I am overall your friend
And though, lover's eyes you cannot see
That I desperately try not to send

I am not poetic, and yet I try
    To understand the emotions when
I look in your heart there is no alibi
Just mistakes to be easily mend

    Forgive me for being controlling;
For loving you well, perhaps too late
Forgive me for not being consoling
Yet, do not tell me I cannot wait

So, I admit it now in low voice
Even at the dearest end, remember this start
Emma, you were always my only choice
In the deepest whispers of my heart.
