    Chapter One

Posted on Tuesday, 7 May 2002

Jane Ruth Bennet was getting married. On May 20th, she was to be joined in holy matrimony to Charles Andrew Bennet.

Everything was planned, from the bride's dress to Mrs. Bennet's smelling salts (if she passed out from excitement). Elizabeth Bennet was to be the maid of honor, and Kitty, and Mary were to be the bridesmaids. The house was in uproar.

"Charles, are you positive that this, this Jane Bennet is not like the other wenches you've dated?" Fitzwilliam Darcy was a skeptic. He knew Charles to have fallen in and out of love countless of times, and when he announced he was to wed, Fitzwilliam was doubtful, but not surprised. Then again, he was to be best man. He wondered what the maid of honor was. . .

"Oh, Lizzy! I can't believe I'm to be married! It has been the most wonderful two years of my life! First, Charles and I meet, then, in one year's time, he asks me to marry him!" Jane was ecstatic. Elizabeth listened to her sister with equal delight. She had never been so happy in her life, and Charles was responsible.

". . . is Fitzwilliam Darcy." Jane finished.

Elizabeth jerked out of her daydreams. "Sorry, I didn't listen. What did you say?"

Jane rolled her eyes. "I said that the best man is a very handsome man. Mamma will be pleased, Lizzy." The sisters exchanged a smile thinking of their mother.

Rehearsal For Wedding At The Church

"Jane, you look beautiful! Positively ravishing!" Kitty looked at her oldest sister Jane model her wedding dress in front of them. Elizabeth grinned in agreement. "By the way, where is the oh-so-handsome best man?" Kitty wondered where the object of the mother's interest was. Out of all the rumors she heard of him, he had to be something!

"Charles told me he couldn't be here. Some business, but he knows what to do. No need to fret." Jane consoled her sisters as they bore worried looks on their faces.

Nothing should go wrong for Jane's wedding.

    Jane and Charles's Wedding

(brace yourselves, it's Mrs. Bennet) "Jaaaaaaaaane! Oh, my poor nerves! Jane!"

"Yes, Mom?" Jane was on the very edge of her own nerves, she couldn't believe it! Charles and her were going to get married! Oh, in five hours, they were to be the happiest couple in the world!

"Where is your sister Lizzy? She has to get ready! Oh, that girl will never get a husband!" Mrs. Bennet continued some more useless shrieking and attracted several vultures.

But Jane wasn't listening. I wonder how Charles will look in his tuxedo?

    Church, Where The Wedding Is

"Oh, William, do you think Jane is here yet?" Charles Bingley still hadn't wiped that goofy smile off his face and William Darcy was getting irritated by his constant happiness.

"I'm not sure, Charles. Look, there's Caroline." William nodded to a orange tornado. (Dwiggies, get ready for Caroline Whining Time!)

"Chaaaaaarles! There's not an speck of orange in this church! Those decorators have NO taste! Blah, Blah, Blah..."

But Charles wasn't listening. I wonder how Jane will look in white?

And William had a pair of "fine eyes" in his mind. . .

"Jane, you have 30 minutes till you walk down the aisle. Tell, me, what do you know about this Mr. Darcy? His name sounds familiar, but I don't remember it." Lizzy spoke to Jane, who was fidgeting in her wedding dress.

"Only that he owns the Darcy Law Firm. Do you think this sash is too tight?" Jane started fixing her hair a bit more.

"Darcy Law Firm! Why, that company rivals the one I work for! He must be loaded. A perfect catch." Elizabeth grinned as she quoted her mother on the last line. Rich, Handsome and Single. The best qualities in a man. Perfect!

"So, Charles, what do you think of Miss Elizabeth Bennet?" Darcy thought the name sounded vaguely familiar.

"She is lawyer for Gardiner Law Firm. Why?" Charles looked himself in the mirror for the millionth time

Darcy thought about it. "Gardiner Law Firm is a step behind mine. She must be quite qualified to get a job there." She sounded interesting. William Darcy won't mind getting to know her better!

The Wedding, Jane Walks Down The Aisle.

William watched with a smile as Jane walked slowly down with her father. Charles was bewitched as she smiled at him, looking radiant and beautiful. The priest smiled as they vowed and said their 'I do's'. Suddenly, Charles nudged Darcy painfully in the ribs. "The rings!" He whispered. William was panic-stricken.

    "I forgot the rings."

    "YOU WHAT!"

Bingley's heart was in free fall. No rings meant no wedding. No wedding meant no Jane. No Jane meant no happiness. No happiness meant no Charles "happy" Bingley!

Suddenly Duck-face, er, Caroline got up.

"I have the rings. They were in William's bedroom."

Everyone let out a big sigh of relief, but William frowned. What was Caroline doing in his room?

"I now pronounce you, man and wife! You may kiss the bride!"

Elizabeth smiled with tears in her eyes as her dear sister Jane kissed the man of her dreams. After that moment of horrors (that jerk forgot the rings!?!) at least the wedding ended happily.

"Hello, Miss Bennet." A deep voice interrupted Lizzy's thoughts. She turned around to see the best man. Wow, one of the tall, dark, and handsome types.

"Hello, Mr. Darcy." Elizabeth thought he looked familiar. "Have I seen you before?" She asked.

William smiled. "I think we both went to Harvard Law, class of '95. We were both in Professor Harold's class."

Elizabeth gasped. Of course! William Darcy was the arrogant man who hardly spoke a word the whole four years! Not to mention he had a staring problem. . .

"Yes, we sure did. It has been a pleasure renewing old acquaintances, Mr. Darcy. But I do believe that this is our dance." And with that he smiled and led her to the dance floor.

    Chapter Three

Posted on Thursday, 30 May 2002

    My dearest Lizzy,

How I long to hear from you. Knowing you prefer letters to e-mail or phone calls, I wrote. How are you? Charles and I are all well. Lizzy, I write to invite you to our new home, Nether Fields. You must remember Mr. Darcy from the wedding, and Caroline and Louisa. They are currently residing with us and we have hopes of throwing a ball soon. We hope you shall stay at least a month, as I have not seen you for several.

    You dearest sister,

    Jane Bingley

Elizabeth smiled as she read Jane's letter. Of course she would visit them! She hadn't seen her favorite sister for 5 months and there was no sense in the house with Mamma, Mary, Kitty, and Lydia.

She remembered William Darcy well too. While they had danced, Elizabeth felt it was so right . But she had barely known him for a few hours and already she was acting like a silly schoolgirl! Plus, it seemed like he and Caroline were having an affair, what with her being in his room that night and being so intimately attached?

"Who was that letter from, Lizzy! Some young man, perhaps?" Mrs. Bennet winked and snatched the letter away. "Oh, it's from Jane! Why, of course you must visit! Mr. Darcy is such a rich, handsome young man!"

Elizabeth smiled. It seemed as if Jane would soon be expecting a visitor.

"Lets see, turn left here and OH! " Elizabeth veered her Volvo as a swift black Mercedes cut in front and sped away. "Jerk. Thinks he owns the roads."

After pulling into the Bingley's huge driveway, Elizabeth saw the same black Mercedes parked there too. "Well, I hope that's not Charles'."

"Miss Bennet, I didn't think I'd see you so soon."

Elizabeth turned and saw Mr. Darcy getting out of the guilty car.
