    Chapter 32

Charles and Jane were preparing all week for the party night. When it finally arrived, though in good humor, both Jane and Charles were exhausted. Lizzy and Will helped as much as they could, but with most things done before they came back from England, their help was very little needed.

It was planned that Jane and Charles would take off Thursday to set everything up. Lizzy was to join them right after work and Will was to arrive when the party started. Caroline was aware of the party, but not of what it was regarding. Charles and Will had come up with the plan to discuss the moving arrangements towards the end of the evening.

While Lizzy was at work, she was successful in ignoring Caroline most of the day. Not needing to speak with her or have anything to do with during the day made it easier for Lizzy to mentally prepare for dealing with her antics that night.

When Lizzy came back from lunch with her co-workers, Krista and Michelle, she found a voicemail waiting for her. Dialing the extension to get her message, she found out her truck was finally repaired and ready for pick up. By instinct, Lizzy called Will.

'William Darcy.' He answered with a monotone line.

'Will it's Lizzy. I just got a message from the shop telling me the truck is repaired and ready to be picked up.'

'Wonderful. When would you like to do that?'

    Lizzy bit her lip.

    'I'm not sure.'

Hearing Will laugh on the other line made her furrow her brow and question what was funny.

'I think you actually like my truck better than your own.'

'Oh that's absurd.' Lizzy began and then after a short pause she replied.

'Okay fine I do. I really adore your truck.' She said and was quick to continue, 'But that doesn't mean I don't love my truck.'

She could picture Will putting his hands up in defense and smirking.

'I never said that it did mean that.' He said lightly.

Lizzy grumbled a little and Will chuckled again.

'All right, how about we do this. I'll pick the truck up tonight after I get home and drive it to Charles' house. Then you'll have your truck back and I'll take my truck home with me.'

Now she knew he was smirking.

    She huffed and sighed.

'Ahh...am I detecting a hint of hesitation from you?' Will asked smoothly.

'Hmph. I love my truck I do. I just...I like yours too.' She said softly.

Will bit his tongue to stop from laughing. How adorable she must look right now admitting her like for his truck.

'You know,' He began, 'my truck, my belongings, everything is yours too.'

The raw yet controlled emotion in his voice, triggered Lizzy's mind to think ahead.

'Thank you Will,' She replied with feeling and then her voice became lighter, ' I think I'll just take both of them and leave you at Charles' house.'

'Now how are you going to do that with driving my truck to his place and having me drive your truck there too?'

'Easy. I'll have Jane pick me up and take me to Charles' house and then take my truck home when you get there. Better pack your bag Will. You're bunking up with Charles.'

Will almost laughed but bit his tongue.

'And you'll be going home by yourself and to bed by yourself too.'

Lizzy laughed and after a bit more bantering, Will told Lizzy that they would pick up her truck tomorrow after she finished work.

Lizzy took her time to get to Charles' place, picking up some needed items Jane asked her to bring right as she was leaving work.

After making a quick stop at home to shower, dress and take Jack out, Lizzy left to head over.

As she drove, she sat back and relaxed, relishing in the luxury of Will's truck, the happy thought of Jane and Charles announcing their engagement tonight and further days to come.

She continued to drive and was determined that nothing could make her unhappy tonight. Not even Caroline.

'Hello?! Jane? Charles?' Lizzy called out into the foyer as she walked into the house. Jane told her to just come in when she arrived.

Jane popped her head from the living room into the foyer and smiled as she saw her sister carrying grocery bags, her purse, and a can of Diet Coke.

'Lizzy! Here let me help you. Oh good you got the wine I needed. I just wanted to make sure I had enough. Let's go into the kitchen.'

Lizzy and Jane walked into the kitchen and after Jane put the wine into the fridge and put the other things away, Jane turned to Lizzy and sighed.

'What's wrong?' Lizzy asked as she finished her Diet Coke.

'Oh I'm just tired and hoping everything goes well tonight.'

Lizzy gave her a sympathetic smile and rubbed her arms.

'Everything will be fine. They will all be surprised and delighted for you. Well, maybe not everyone, but everyone that matters will be.' Lizzy said with a soft smile.

Jane tried to smile and then rolled her eyes.

'Yes, but I don't need any drama from her. Not tonight. Oh Lizzy! I really hope that Will and Charles don't have to argue too much with her about the moving. She's already going to have a fit about our engagement.'

Lizzy didn't say anything. Instead, she let her sister vent her hidden frustrations.

'I've already had to hear about how unsophisticated I am for not hiring a caterer for the party and how I haven't used the rooms properly for the party "flow." I am so glad Charles was there to calmly tell her to mind her business and if she didn't like it she didn't have to be there. Oh I was ready to snap at her!'

Lizzy lightly giggled and sighed herself.

'Oh Jane, everything will be fine. I admit that I'm not completely sure about them telling her tonight, but I trust that they will have it under control. She is...unbearable and completely fake, but I think that we won't have to worry too much about her.'

Jane looked at her sister for a moment and then squinted her eyes at her.

    'You're a horrible liar.'

Lizzy laughed and shook her head.

'You know what I mean Jane. I know Will didn't want to particularly talk to her tonight, or at all, but he wants to be there for Charles. And I'm sure Charles wants her out sooner rather than later.'

'He does.' she nodded. 'He really does. He can't wait until she leaves. He already has plans to repaint her room and get movers here to take her over. He loves her, but he doesn't want to live with her anymore. He's anxious for her to move out.'

'Yeah, and even more anxious for you to move in.' Lizzy said hiding a smile as best she could.

    'I am too.' Jane blushed.

Both the girls turned and saw Charles walk into the kitchen with a bright smile on his face.

'Even though this is our night to celebrate our engagement, I also want nothing in the way and by telling my sister that tonight, I feel I will be most happy.' Charles said as filled a glass of water and then lightly kissed Jane on the cheek.

'Hmm...' Jane started but didn't continue. Instead she tugged on Lizzy's hand to show her the dining room and living room.

Flowers were arranged all over the dining room table and the end tables and coffee table along with a few candles spread on the mantle and the dining room table.

    'Oh Jane, this is lovely.'

    'Thank you.'

'Jane, honey, I think our guests are arriving.'

Jane smoothed her dress and looked at Lizzy who gave her a smile and a small nod.

'Ready?' Charles asked and held his hand out for Jane to take with a broad smile on his face.

Will fidgeted with his keys as he waited for the light. He had a driver from his company take him to Charles' house after he finished his afternoon meeting. He was nervous about talking to Caroline. He didn't want to do it. No, instead he wanted to go home with Lizzy and let Charles deal with her. But he made a promise and a Darcy never backs out on a promise.

As he looked out the window and then back down to his keys, his fingers and eyes found a certain key he couldn't help but smile at. Lizzy's key. He planned on giving it to her tonight, once they were at Lizzy's and alone.

Before he knew it, he was at Charles' place and walking up the front walk. Hesitant, thinking Caroline might open the door, he was pleasantly surprised to see Jane.

'Will.' She said calmly and led him inside.

'Hello Jane. You look lovely as usual. Everything going well so far?'

    Jane smiled and nodded.

'So far, so good. Everyone is in the living room having wine and talking. We wanted to wait for you before we said anything.'

Will smiled, kissed Jane on the cheek and walked with her into the living room.

No one noticed his entrance right away, so Will took the opportunity to scan the room with his eyes to find two if not three certain people in the room.

Mrs. Bennet, being one of them, was talking very vividly to Mrs. Long, a very good friend of hers apparently. His eyes then searched for orange and quickly found what he would originally think, if he didn't already know her so well, a very orange bird. Feathers everywhere on her dress and bright as the color sounds, Caroline stood tall nursing a tall glass of wine and talking sweetly, or so it looked, to George Knightly. Without even knowing it, Will found himself looking at Emma who sauntered over to George and Caroline and without looking at Caroline, took George's arm and led him to the other side of the room. He then turned his eyes to Caroline who stalked off to talk to her sister and after seeing her attention completely on Louisa, he finally searched for Lizzy.

There she was, gorgeous as ever in a light green dress that stopped mid-calf and flowingly kissed her calves as she stood or walked. He saw her with her back turned to him talking to Marianne and Elinor.

He smiled, and before he could go to her, Charles intercepted him.

'Will! Glad you made it on time too. Did you want something to drink? Food is ready in the dining room. Jane really outdid herself, but she's always wonderful.' He said and sighed with a huge lazy grin on his face, watching Jane talk with Edward and Robert.

Will hid his smile and put his hand on Charles' shoulder.

'You my friend, are completely and utterly in love.'

Charles didn't seem to hear him and when Will saw that Charles was dreaming of Jane and watching her intently, he gazed at Lizzy.

Charles shook his head and looked at Will with a smile.

'Well, do you want a drink?'

Will didn't move an eye but spoke.

'Not now Charles. I'm going to see my Elizabeth.'

And with that, he left Charles and strode to Elizabeth's side.

Catching her laugh with Elinor and Marianne, he slid his arm around her waist and gave her a kiss on the cheek.

    'Good evening my gorgeous Elizabeth.'

Lizzy blushed, looked up at Will and kissed him politely.

'Do you want a drink?' She asked looking up at him.

With no words and a small smirk on his face, he slowly shook his head and kept his hold on Lizzy.

He was quite content to stay this way the whole party, but it was not to be. As he was listening to Lizzy and Elinor talk about Elinor and Edward buying a house together, Caroline found Will's free arm.

'William darling, I'm so glad you're here but sad you didn't come and say hello right when you got here. How rude of you.' She said batting her fake eyelashes that had orange crystals on them. Will cringed and tightened his hold on Lizzy' waist.

Lizzy turned and looked at her with amusement while noticing that Will looked straight ahead. Elinor gave Lizzy a sympathetic smile.

Caroline simply ignored them both and turned her full attention to Will.

'William, would you be a doll and get me a glass of wine? I'm afraid I would break a glass if I tried.'

William held a big sigh in and slowly bent his head to look at Lizzy and give her a smile of love.

'I think you won't break anything Caroline. You're a big girl now and I'm sure you can fill yourself a glass of wine.' Lizzy said with a smirk.

Caroline threw her a dirty look and then rubbed Will's arm. Tensely, Will stiffened and let go of Lizzy and turned to Caroline.

'I believe Lizzy is right Caroline. I'm sure you can handle the task yourself. If you need anything throughout the night, I'm sure Charles can accommodate you.'

Before Caroline could respond, Lizzy moved in front of Will and took Caroline's arm.

'What are you doing?!' She cried out at Lizzy and Lizzy said nothing only smiled.

    'Let go of me!'

'Caroline, I'm simply going to teach you, as I do at work, how to get yourself a glass of wine.'

With Caroline's back facing Will and Elinor, Lizzy turned her head and saw Elinor trying not to laugh and Will smiling at Lizzy.

    'We'll be right back.'

Caroline tried to turn around and snatch her arm back from Lizzy's grip but Lizzy wouldn't have it.

'William! Tell her to let go of me.' Caroline hissed having a few party goers glance up at her. Will simply ignored her and turned to Elinor to talk to her.

Lizzy led Caroline in to the dining room where bottles of wine and wine glasses were available.

She picked up a wine glass and thrust it into Caroline's hand.

'Here. Now what kind of wine would you like Caroline? Red or white?'

Caroline gave Lizzy a dirty look and withdrew her arm from Lizzy's tight grip and smoothed her dress down.

'I suppose you'll pour it for me. You must have experience in serving the wealthy I'm sure.'

Lizzy ignored her sharp tone and smiled.

'No, I just know I how to help myself like normal people Caroline. Even Will knows how to serve himself. Not everyone is here for your convenience.'

Lizzy picked up the bottle of red wine and handed it to her. Caroline didn't take it.

'I'm not pouring it for you. You're capable of doing it. So here,' Lizzy took Caroline's hand and put the wine bottle in it. 'Do it yourself.'

Caroline held the bottle of wine and huffed while Lizzy watched on. When she didn't do anything, she sarcastically rolled her eyes and tried to find someone who would pour the wine for her. When she couldn't find anyone she complained about the bottle being too heavy and tried to set it down on the table in front of them. Slipping on the edge, the wine bottle fell onto the floor, staining Caroline's feathers and dress.

'Now look what you made me do! You'll pay for this!' Caroline cried out and started to whimper.

'I'm not paying one dime on that dress.' Lizzy said trying not to laugh.

After looking at the red stain on her dress, she smiled.

'Actually it makes the dress look better than before.' She said and left Caroline to her own devices as she headed back to Will and Elinor.

Charles and Jane suddenly became very happy and nervous. It was time to tell everyone. As they gathered everyone into the living room, Charles took Jane's hand and led her to the fireplace.

'Everyone? Everyone! I would like to have your attention please... Thank you.'

Lizzy scanned the room for Caroline and felt Will lightly touch her hand and whisper into her ear.

'Who are you looking for? I'm right here next to you.'

Lizzy smiled and slightly shook her head.

'I'm looking for Caroline. I don't want her ruining this for them.'

Will looked around the room and nodded towards the dining room.

    'There.'

Lizzy looked where he said and saw her. Nodding her confirmation, she paid attention to Charles and Jane.

'Jane and I would like to thank you all for joining us this beautiful evening. We are very glad all of our friends and family could make it tonight. It's not just any night that we are gathered here. We have a very special announcement to make to all of you and I'm very, very happy to be able to share this with you, as is Jane.' Charles beamed and letting out a soft sigh, he said very joyously, 'Jane has agreed to be my wife.'

All throughout the room, people were cheering and praising their congratulations to the happy couple. Charles beamed as he kissed Jane a few times in front of everyone who applauded. Lizzy felt Will's strong hand embrace her shoulder. Smiling at his gesture, she looked towards Caroline's direction to find her choking on her wine.

After a moment, she heard Caroline scream.

'What!! Charles are you serious! You can't be serious. You're going to marry her for what?!'

Caroline stormed up to Jane and shouted.

'You just want him for his money! You tramp!'

Before she could go on, George came up and pulled her away telling her to hush while Charles smiled sympathetically and apologized to everyone as well as mentally noting to thank George later.

After letting everyone privately congratulate her sister and Charles, Lizzy went to them and embraced them both.

'You two look so happy.' Lizzy said as she warmly smiled at the couple.

Jane blushed and hugged her sister again.

'We are very happy Lizzy. I am so lucky.'

Charles grinned and shook his head.

'On the contrary, I'm the lucky one. Lucky to have you by my side my entire life!'

Will spoke up, feeling a bit out of place just standing there smiling.

'I think you are both very lucky to have one another.'

Charles smiled and then asked to speak with Will privately and took him into his study. Lizzy and Jane were approached by their parents.

'Oh my dearest Jane! I am so sad that your sisters can't be here tonight, but I am happy that my daughter is getting married! Oh if only Nicholas was here to congratulate you too, but he's so busy with work and his family. Now you will be close so I can see you and Charles as well as the grandkids as much as I'd like. Oh where is Charles? I want to congratulate him too! Oh I'm so happy. And will you be living here? This house is splendid!' Mrs. Bennet raved.

Jane smiled sweetly as Lizzy turned to her father and rolled her eyes.

'Yes Mom, we are going to be living here for the time being. Charles is talking with Will right now. I'm sure he will be back momentarily.'

Before Mrs. Bennet could continue, Mr. Bennet spoke up.

'Well my dear, I am delighted for you. I like Charles very much and I think you two will be very happy.'

'Thank you, Dad.' Jane said as she accepted his warm embrace.

'Now about the wedding, have you two come up with a date?' Mrs. Bennet asked with gleaming eyes.

    Jane sighed and smiled.

'Yes we have, but I would-'

'And what about the rest of the planning? I'm sure I have time enough to help you out. You'll need a cake, the church, reception hall, flowers, caterer, your dress. I know just the place for the photography too. I was taking to-'

'Mom, Mom we have it under control. To be honest, I'm almost done with the planning thanks to Lizzy.' Jane quickly replied and smiled at Lizzy.

'Lizzy? What do you know about weddings Lizzy? You've never been married and at this rate you're never going to. Now Jane, I don't think you should let your sister control your life. I've been married for 28 years. I think I would know something about weddings.'

Jane's face went white and then flushed hearing her mother talk about Lizzy in such a tone. Mr. Bennet quietly scolded his wife for such an outburst and Lizzy fumed inside. She didn't know what to think next. She half-expected her mother to say something crass as she did, but then again, she didn't expect it to be with such coldness either.

'Excuse me.' Lizzy said and walked out onto the balcony for some fresh air.

Once she was outside she took a deep breath and looked out into the night sky. Thinking over her mother's words aggravated her. It was as though her mother didn't know who she was. It didn't really surprise her. Lizzy's father knew her better than her own mother! She laughed to herself at the thought and told herself she would never be distant and ignorant with her daughters.

    'Lizzy?'

Lizzy turned around and saw her father standing there with a sympathetic smile on his face looking for his daughter's approval to talk to her.

'It's okay Dad. I know that she is just getting herself wrapped up into her eldest daughter's wedding.'

Mr. Bennet started to chuckle and moved closer to Lizzy.

'Oh she loves you too. She wants to see you happy.'

    Lizzy laughed bitterly.

'But I AM happy dad. I'm not sad, I'm not disappointed with my life, I'm happy. I do not want for anything.'

'I know that sweetie. I can see it.'

Lizzy grinned and turned back to the sky.

'He makes you happy. That's something wonderful. I don't know him very well, but seeing you with him and hearing you talk of him as warmly as you do... You are happy my love, you truly are.'

'Thanks Dad. I am...I really am.'

'Lizzy? Oh I'm sorry. I didn't mean to disturb-'

'No Will, you weren't.' Lizzy said sweetly as she turned around to watch him walk closer to her and her father.

'I think I'll let you two talk.' Mr. Bennet said walking towards the door.

'Oh no, please sir, I was merely trying to find Lizzy since Charles was bringing out the champagne and wanted to celebrate with everyone.'

    Mr. Bennet smiled and nodded.

'Well I should find my wife and rescue Jane and Charles before they re-think their plans.'

He left and Will moved closer to Lizzy giving her a kiss on the forehead.

'You look beautiful. Come let me take you inside and see Jane.'

Lizzy took his arm and as they entered the house, Caroline approached them. Ignoring Lizzy and taking Will's other arm, Caroline smiled and whispered close to his ear.

'Let go of her and come with me.'

Will rolled his eyes and pushed her away.

'Lizzy I think we are wanted by Jane and Charles.'

Caroline, refusing to accept denial, returned her hand to his arm and tugged on him away from Lizzy. Almost stumbling from the light jolt, Lizzy turned to Caroline and peered at her.

    'Caroline, what are doing?'

Caroline smiled knowingly at Lizzy and ignored her, turning her full attention to Will.

'William, please come with me. I need to talk to you.'

Will looked at Lizzy and shook his head.

'I'm not going with you Caroline. Please excuse us.'

'What does she have that I don't? How can you even think about being with a tramp like her when you can be with a real woman like me? Didn't our relationship mean anything to you?" Caroline started to raise her voice and Will quickly moved towards her to calm her down.

    Lizzy laughed acrimoniously.

'That's rich Caroline.' She said watching her make a fool of herself.

'Caroline don't. This party is for Jane and Charles and I will not have you spoil their night.' Will said coolly.

'Then come with me. Just on the balcony. Leave her here and come.'

Lizzy came up to them with a heated expression on her face.

'Go! Just go with her. I don't care anymore. Talk to her Will, because obviously she won't shut up until you do and quite frankly I'm not going to have it.'

'You can't have anything! William is mine and always has been. You're just a go to girl until he's ready to marry me.' Caroline spat at her.

Lizzy chose to ignore her and looked at Will.

'Just go.' She then turned to Caroline and took a deep breath.

'You need to stay out of our business. You have no feelings except your own and you won't understand anything until you grow a conscience. So go talk to him Caroline, I don't care what you say to him, because he's never going back to you. He's with me and I trust him.'

Caroline smiled and turned to Will, kissing him full on the lips.

Lizzy's eyes went wide and Will pushed Caroline back a few steps and looked at her with disgust.

'Miss me?' Caroline asked when she looked into Will's eyes.

'Never! Caroline I'm not speaking to you. Come on Lizzy.'

Lizzy didn't budge when she felt Will's hand on her arm to guide her away, instead she looked at Caroline and determinedly walked up to her and slapped her hard on the face. Caroline didn't see it coming and at the impact of the blow went to the floor.

Not noticing anyone watching, and not even caring if they did, Lizzy stood over Caroline and in a calm tone said, 'Never think you can step in my way or our relationship. You can't fool me and you can't do anything to hurt me. So back off!'

Without looking around, Lizzy looked straight ahead and walked towards Jane who looked with worry at her sister.

Will followed, but went to Charles who was already upset at his sister's actions.

'I know Will. I'm going to talk to her now.'

Charles went to Caroline and took her to the kitchen.

'What do you think you're doing?!' Charles asked in bewilderment.

'He's mine! Not hers. Not that little...Charles she's in my way. I can't believe she hit me! I should file charges against her!'

'You'll do no such thing, Caroline....' Charles sighed, ' I was going to wait to tell you this, but I think your behavior tonight proved to me that I need to tell you now. I want you out of my house.'

'What? Charles you're ridiculous. I'm not leaving you.'

'Yes. Yes Caroline, you are. Jane will be moving in and I don't want you living with us. In fact, I have an apartment set up for you.'

    'But...but Charles I can't leave here.'

'Yes you can, and you will.'

'What apartment is this?' Caroline asked with hesitation.

'You'll be living in Jane and Lizzy's place.'

'I'm not living with her! No way.'

'You won't be. She's moving in with Will.'

    'WHAT?!?!'

Charles came up quickly to her and told her to be quiet.

'You are not his and he will never be yours Caroline. Now you will be moving into their old apartment next week. So I suggest you show some decorum tonight and pack your things the rest of the week.'

    'Can't. I have to work.'

'Not this week and with that I'm moving you to another department. I won't have you belittling Lizzy at work and not doing your share. This is over, Caroline. I won't stand for it any longer. You are no longer to speak to Jane, Lizzy, Will, or myself in the manner you have been. Now I'm going back out there. If you can handle yourself like a woman with manners and good behavior, I'd like you to celebrate with us, but under no terms are you to treat anyone here as if they are beneath you. Everyone here is a friend or family. I want you to join us, but only if you can behave. You make the choice. But this is the last and final time I talk to you about this. I won't stand for it anymore.'

Charles then left the kitchen and Caroline.

Caroline stood there with a scowl on her face the entire time Charles spoke and rolled her eyes. However, knowing her brother and knowing him to always be in a good mood, she never saw this side of him and after thinking about what he said, she decided to go back out to the party.

Caroline found Lizzy talking with Emma and made her way over to her.

Tapping her on the shoulder, she almost smiled when Lizzy turned around not surprised by Caroline's intrusion.

'Don't think you can get away with this Elizabeth Bennet.'

Lizzy eyed her and then spoke.

'I'm not getting away with anything that isn't already real and true. Now if you don't mind I'm having a conversation. One worth having.' And she turned around.

Caroline dropped her jaw, but chose to walk away. She was determined to find Will, now that he wasn't near Lizzy.

Finding him talking to Mr. Bennet and Robert, she sauntered over and gently put her hand again on his arm.

Will slowly looked down in repugnance at the gesture and took his other hand to remove hers.

Returning to his conversation, he thought he didn't need to worry anymore, giving her such a hint, but she refused and returned her hand on his back.

'Excuse me.' Will said to Mr. Bennet and Robert and turned to Caroline.

'If you don't mind, I would like you to remove your presence from my own.'

    Caroline smiled sweetly and giggled.

'No you don't, and seeing as your girlfriend isn't nearby I'm sure that you can spare a moment to talk to me.'

Searching her eyes for anything normal, Will peered at her and then shook his head.

'I have already told you everything I have wanted to say.'

'But you didn't say anything.' She asked dumbfounded.

'Exactly.' And he turned to his companions.

Caroline huffed and continued to stand next to him. When he didn't respond to her presence, she moved closer.

Feeling her in such a close proximity, Will finished his conversation with the help of his companions urging him to go and be near Lizzy.

Without looking at Caroline, he turned and left her side.

Jane was utterly beyond happy. With the warm congratulations from everyone and Charles by her side, the behavior of Caroline hardly impacted her. Charles quickly got over his anger with her and continued to watch her throughout the night, but not as much as he did Jane. Holding her hand and complimenting her as much as he could, Charles was happy and content. They both felt at ease with announcing their engagement and with having most everything prepared. They were relaxed and able to answer everyone's questions without feeling overwhelmed.

After most of the company had gone, Charles joined George, Edward, Will and Robert for a while.

'You know if Richard was here, he would ask what night you were free before the wedding to take you out.' George said with a smile.

Laughing with him, he smiled and said, 'Right, he would, but I'm hoping to get him to the church and not a bar.'

'I'm sure it can be done. He wouldn't miss your wedding for anything Charles.' Edward said.

'He'd better not! Or I won't be going to his.' Charles said with a laugh.

Soon Lizzy and Jane along with Marianne joined the conversation.

'What's so funny over here?' Lizzy asked smiling at the four of them.

'Yeah we can hear you four laughing all the way from the kitchen.'

'Oh nothing. We were just talking about Richard.'

'Really?' Lizzy said with a quirked up eyebrow.

Will stood a few feet away from Lizzy and watched her talk about Richard with an animated face.

'Well, may one ask what about Richard you are talking of?'

'I was just saying that if he were here, he would ask Charles what night he could take him out before the wedding and Charles just said that he would rather him at the wedding than a bar and that he better come.' George said smiling at Charles.

'Now that I think about it, I don't think he's the marrying type.' Robert said thoughtfully.

'I can see that.' Lizzy said while everyone thought about it.

'You can huh?' Charles said with a grin.

'Well yes. He's not the type, from what I know of him, to want to settle down and get married, start a family and all that. He likes being single.'

'How would you know this?' Edward asked confused.

Lizzy smiled and patted his arm.

'Because I'm friends with him, and besides that, he says he doesn't want to get married. He's too busy with his work to settle down.'

Lizzy glanced at Will who had a serious frown on his face and she looked away when he looked in her direction.

'I think we're going to go home. I have a busy day tomorrow.' Marianne finally said tiredly.

Yawning and putting her hand on Robert's shoulder, she weakly smiled and turned with Robert to go. Jane and Charles followed to bid them goodbye and soon George and Emma left along with Elinor and Edward.

'Well that was some party!' Lizzy said before yawning.

'I think it went rather well.' Charles said, picking up empty wine glasses throughout the living room and dining room.

'I'm happy with the way things went. I feel much better now that we have everything planned as far ahead as we do and that we told everyone here tonight.'

Lizzy smiled at her sister and helped her clean up in the kitchen while Will and Charles finished in the dining room and living room.

Once they were all done, the four of them poured glasses of wine and sat out to enjoy the night on the balcony.

After a while of silence, Jane spoke up.

    'Where's Caroline?'

A soft groan came from Lizzy's lips, but Charles replied.

'I believe she went to bed.'

'So you're not going to talk to her tonight then?' Lizzy asked before taking a long sip of wine.

Will shifted in his chair while Charles sighed.

    'Actually, I already told her.'

To the amazement of the rest of the party, Charles took a sip from his glass.

    'You did?' Lizzy asked shocked.

    Charles only nodded.

    'What did she say?'

Charles paused and then looking at Will he smiled.

'She wasn't happy, but she's going to have to deal with it. She wasn't happy though when I told her where she was moving and why.'

Lizzy started to laugh while Jane and Will remained quiet.

'I'm sure she didn't since she doesn't like Jane or me.'

'Well listen, I'm really sorry she pulled the stunts out tonight. I really didn't think she would do that.'

Lizzy smiled and Will spoke up.

'I don't blame you Charles. I blame her. She knows it's over and having her act in an irrational manner as she did is unpardonable.'

Charles sighed knowing Caroline was wrong, and unhappy that his sister couldn't be happy for him. He was angry as well at her outburst regarding the engagement.

'Charles, don't worry, she didn't do anything that I didn't expect.' Jane said softly with her hand finding his.

Grasping her hand and kissing it, Charles smiled feeling content.

Will looked at Lizzy who sat next to him and smiled.

'I think we'll call it a night. I know that we have work tomorrow, so we should be going.' Will said as he grabbed for her hand and stood up.

As they all walked to the front door, Will kissed Lizzy on the cheek and turned around to bid Jane and Charles a good night.

Lizzy smiled and hugged them each once more and they departed, leaving Jane and Charles to themselves.

'Tired?' Will asked as he pulled the car onto the street.

'Somewhat, but I've missed you so much today that I'd like to stay up and spend time with you.'

Will smiled and took her hand again.

'So would I. Let's go home shall we?'

Lizzy smiled and laid back into her seat.

    'Mmm hmm...home sounds wonderful.'

    Chapter 33

It felt like déjà vu, to Lizzy, moving again. It had been a week after the engagement party and after all the plans were final, the women set to work on packing their things up. She packed her things into the same boxes she had used when she moved into the apartment a mere four months ago. Already she had five boxes packed and ready to go. In the kitchen, Jane was packing things and having a hard time figuring out what to take and what to leave.

Lizzy taped the box she was packing and moved it to the side. She then took a break and went to visit Jane.

'Everything okay?' Lizzy asked as she saw Jane holding the blender in her hands.

    Jane sighed and then smiled.

'I'm frustrated because Charles pretty much has all of this stuff. The only thing I really want is grandma's china. Other than that, I'm thinking I could just leave this stuff for Caroline. I'm pretty sure she could use it.'

    Lizzy snickered.

'I don't think she knows her way around a kitchen. I had to show her how to pour a glass of wine! What does that tell you?'

'Hmm...well I could just leave it here. I'm sure she would figure it out.'

Lizzy shrugged and grab a water bottle from the refrigerator.

'Well I would just leave it.' Lizzy said and took a drink of her water.

After watching Jane set the blender back on the counter and pack her beloved pots and pans, Lizzy asked when the guys would be arriving.

'Umm...well it's 11.30 now and they should be here anytime now to be honest. I know that Charles was bringing lunch and I'm sure Will is with him.'

'Good! I'm starving.' Lizzy said and after a few minutes she went back to packing.

It was nearly one thirty when the men came over with lunch, some tape, and a truck to transport everything. The plan was to move Jane's things first and then Lizzy's.

By then Lizzy had her things moved into the hallway except her furniture and started helping Jane with the living room.

'Oh, I forgot to tell you that Nick is coming later today to help out too. He should be here around 2.30 or so.'

    Lizzy's eyes went wide.

'How could you forget to tell me Jane? More importantly how did you get him to help out?'

    Jane shrugged.

'I just called him and asked him to help since we have a lot of things to move.'

'What did he say?' Lizzy asked as she taped up a box of books.

'He said he would come if he could and then he called me last night and told me he would be here. To be honest, I was quite surprised myself. I didn't think he would actually come out but he said that Rachel would be busy with the kids this weekend anyways doing something; I'm not sure what.'

'Busy with the kids? What's that mean?' Lizzy asked as she took some items from Jane to pack into a box.

Jane just shrugged and didn't answer as the doorbell rang and she hurried to answer.

    'Happy moving day everyone!'

Lizzy heard Charles' voice and moved into the hallway to greet him and Will.

'Hello Lizzy! How's everything going?' Charles asked brightly.

Smiling and giving him a warm hug, she replied.

'Smoothly. I'm quite happy with the progress we've made. Glad to see you two are here though!'

Lizzy then moved to Will and gave him a loving kiss.

'Missed you.' She whispered to him receiving a huge smile and another kiss.

'I missed you too, my love.'

Moving from the crowded hallway and into the dining room, Charles put lunch on the table and asked about Jack.

'I took him to my parents'. I didn't think he needed to be around all of this.' Lizzy said and started to serve up lunch.

'Ahh well, I'm sure he would be a hyper bugger if he was here, right?' Charles asked with a smile.

Lizzy nodded and bit into her sandwich.

'When's your brother coming?' Charles asked before eating.

'In about an hour or so.' Jane called from the living room finishing up a box.

    'Nick?' Will asked.

Lizzy nodded and rolled her eyes.

'Seems Jane called him and he said he would come, amazingly enough.'

After everyone ate, they ventured into the living room to see it half packed up and half a mess of boxes, paper, tape, and sorted items to be packed and some to be given to Goodwill.

'So what should we bring out first?' Charles asked looking around the room.

'Well we should probably load Lizzy's things first and then mine. Since we are unloading my things first, I think that would make the most sense.'

After loading Lizzy's things, everyone took a break. While they enjoyed the weather outside, Nick's car pulled up.

With a forced smile and looking a bit beat, Nick greeted his sisters warmly as well as Will and Charles.

'It's great to see you Nick! Ready for some work?' Charles asked taking his last drink of water.

'Yeah. yeah I am. Anything I can do to help.'

'Well come inside and we can show you what we need to take with us. Some of the things are staying here for Charles' sister Caroline.' Jane said as they entered the apartment.

After showing everyone the things that were going and the things that were staying, the men loaded the truck while the women tidied up the apartment and finished with any odds and ends.

With the men resting from their task, Jane and Lizzy finished up and hurried to get moving before losing daylight.

'Ready to go?' Jane asked Lizzy as she grabbed her purse and other personal belongings.

Lizzy nodded and grabbed her laptop bag, her school bag, and Jack's stuff in a bag and left.

Once they settled who would be driving what, they left the apartment parking lot and headed to Charles's house.

It didn't take long for them to arrive and once they did, Charles entered the house first to see if Caroline was home. After finding out that she wasn't, Charles came outside and gave everyone the go and started unloading everything into the house. It didn't take long as they all transferred Jane's things into the appropriate rooms. Since neither she nor Lizzy needed the furniture, Caroline was able to use it. If she didn't like it, then Jane and Lizzy would have it moved back to their parents for Kitty and Lydia to use in the basement until they moved.

As they finished up with Jane's stuff, they decided to take an early dinner break before going to Will's.

They decided on going to Olive Garden for a relaxed bite to eat and then headed over to Will's place to unload the rest of Lizzy's things. There wasn't much, so the time needed was very little.

As the five of them ordered their food, conversation was minimal until after their drinks were served.

'So what's Rachel doing with the kids this weekend Nick?' Lizzy asked.

    Nick sighed heavily.

'She had planned to take them to Hershey Park and then to her mother's house.'

'How are the kids?' Jane asked holding Charles' hand.

'Uh, they're good. I haven't seen them very much lately, but that's all due to work.'

'How's that going for you Nick?' Will asked.

Nick looked up at Will with sorrow in his eyes. Will detected it immediately and tried to grin.

'It's going well. More cases keep coming in and we're doing well.'

    Will only nodded.

Jane noticed his quietness and laid a hand on his back.

Soon their meals arrived and everyone tried to enjoy them without feeling the effects of moving set in.

After dinner, they piled up into the vehicles and headed out to Will's.

While Will and Lizzy were in Will's BMW, he ventured an invitation for Nick to stay the night.

'Hmm. That's up to him Will. I'm sure he wants to get home to his family though.'

    Will didn't say anything.

'What's wrong?' Lizzy asked grabbing his hand to hold. Squeezing her hand tightly he kissed it and then glanced at her.

'Nothing, I just...I think your brother is going through something.'

'Like what?' Lizzy asked softly trying to figure it out.

    Will shrugged his shoulders.

Without saying anything else, Will and Lizzy comfortably held hands and pulled up into his driveway followed by Charles driving the truck, Jane driving his car and Nick.

'Here we are.' Will said as he saw everyone walk up to the house.

'I don't have much.' Lizzy said.

'I think we'll just set it in all in the sunroom and you can unpack tomorrow.' Will said as he helped Charles and Nick start unloading the truck.

It didn't take long for the boxes and Lizzy's chair to be moved. The chair fit nicely with the décor in the living room so Will decided that place was its new home. Her boxes went into the sunroom until she could unpack. Her clothing and other personal items were brought upstairs into Georgie's room until she put them away, which she planned on doing the next day.

It was 7 pm when they completely finished.

Jane offered to make a light snack since they were still full from the Olive Garden while Charles and Will took the truck back.

While they were gone, Nick decided to talk to his sisters.

'I have something to tell you two; something that I've kept from the rest of the family, especially mom.'

Jane looked at her brother with concern, while Lizzy casually sat on the countertop.

'What's up Nick?' Lizzy asked popping a few cashews she found in one of the cupboards into her mouth.

Nick wrung his hands together and didn't speak for several moments.

After not hearing anything, Jane came up to him and gave him a hug, while Lizzy slipped down from the counter and looked at him seriously.

'Nick what is it? You're scaring me with this nervous silence.' Jane said holding him at arms length.

Nick tried to smile but failed. He then sighed and let his hands go to his sides.

'All right. Rachel and I are getting a divorce.'

Gasps came from both his sisters and soon Jane's arms were around him again.

'Are you absolutely certain?' Lizzy asked coming closer to him.

Nick nodded and then tilted his head to the side.

'At least a separation. We've actually been separated for about two months now.'

Lizzy stood still watching Jane comfort him and feeling herself grow sick with worry.

'Oh Nick, I'm so sorry. To think that this is happening to you.' Jane said calmly.

Nick said nothing and then looked at Lizzy.

Lizzy could only try and smile.

'How did it happen Nick?' Lizzy asked quietly.

Nick let out a deep breath and looked at the floor as if searching for the words. His eyes grew big and then he shook his head.

'Uh well, she said I was gone too much and that she couldn't handle raising the kids without me around. She said that her mother was around more than I was to help her, and since that was the way it was looking to be for a long time, she said she was leaving with the kids to live with her mother and wanted a separation.'

'How did the divorce thing come up then?' Lizzy asked with a furrowed brow.

'She said that if things didn't change...she would file.'

A shocked silence filled the room. Noticing Jane and Lizzy not saying anything, Nick tried to chuckle.

'You know...I thought I was doing everything right. Providing for my family, being a good husband and a good father. I thought I was that to them. But after she blew me away with this...this shock...I didn't think I was anything.'

Jane immediately enclosed him into a hug again with Lizzy hugging them both.

'Everything will be okay. You just need to talk to her. Can you cut back on your hours?' Jane asked soothingly.

'I was thinking I could. I'm sure we could hire another partner to help with the caseload.'

    Then Lizzy spoke up.

    'Does dad know?'

    Nick grinned and then nodded.

'Yeah, he knows. He understands and told me to figure out what I needed from him. He told me about the possibility of hiring another partner. I think I might take him up on that.'

He stopped and then turned towards the living room.

'I don't want to lose her. I refuse to give up. I love her...love her too much to let go. And my kids! What will they think of me now? Goodness what a mess I've made.'

He then sat down on the couch and held his head in his hands. Jane went back to making their light meal but Lizzy ventured over and put a small smile on her face and put her hand on his shoulder.

'Look, everything will be all right. I'm sure Rachel and you will be able to work things out. In the meantime if you need anything, we are here for you, and you have our word not to tell mom or the rest of the family. Okay?'

Nick slowly nodded his head and then sat back resting his eyes and letting out a deep sigh.

'I just need to think things through....just think things through.' He told himself.

Lizzy watched him and then realized that Will was right. Something had been wrong with Nick and it just took the right opportunity for him to say it.

'You know Nick, you can stay here tonight if you'd like. Even the weekend if you want.'

Nick opened his eyes and smiled at this little sister.

'Thanks Lizzy. You don't think Will would mind?'

Smiling warmly she shook her head.

'And even if he did, I live here now and you're my guest. He would have to deal with me then if he had a problem. To be honest though, it was his idea.'

'Well that's very kind. Yes, if I could I would love to stay. I don't want to intrude or anything, but it would give me some time to think and get away from an empty house.'

Before anyone could say anything, Charles and Will returned.

They thought it somewhat odd that it was so quiet, especially Charles.

Will came up to Lizzy and gave her a hug from behind and a kiss on her head.

'Everything all right?' He asked receiving a nod from Lizzy.

'Good. How's everything coming Jane? Can I help you with anything?' Will asked as he moved to the kitchen.

'No I'm good. It will be ready in just a few minutes. How about we get the table set?'

Charles quickly helped Will with the table as Nick and Lizzy helped Jane carry the plates of cheese, crackers, sandwiches and fruit to the table.

After eating and helping clean up, Jane and Charles left.

Nick felt a little awkward being left alone with Will and Lizzy, but the feeling soon melted away when Will started conversation.

'I don't know if you are able to, but you are more than welcome to stay here tonight.'

'Oh thanks Will. Lizzy offered, and if I'm not intruding, I'd be happy to stay.'

'Good, you're no intrusion. You're our guest. Please let me show you where you can stay. I have a guest room above stairs.'

Will led Nick upstairs after he grabbed his overnight bag from his car.

Meanwhile, Lizzy started to unpack her boxes that were in the sunroom. She was pleased with herself that she marked them so well and things were easy to find for her. Usually she just packed things into a box and marked them miscellaneous.

It was about ten minutes later when the men found her happily humming to herself and unpacking her book boxes.

'Oh hey! I saw you had some space in the library so I'm putting my books away is that okay?' Lizzy asked brightly.

Will smiled and helped her carry the books to the library.

'Can I help with anything?' Nick asked as he stood in the sunroom watching them move things.

'Umm...how about you take these books with Will and put them away in the library. I have one box of books left.'

After they finished, Will took the empty boxes and set them in the garage.

'I think I'm going to hit the hay. I'm a bit tired.' Nick said rubbing his neck.

Lizzy gave him a hug and kiss on the cheek and Nick headed upstairs saying good night to them as he went.

Once he was upstairs, Will moved to Lizzy enclosing his arms around her.

'Welcome home sweetheart.' He said smiling into her hair.

'Hmm...I'm so happy!' Lizzy said excitedly.

'Well what would you like to do now? I think you can unpack the rest of your things tomorrow.' Will said.

Lizzy pulled back a little bit to look at him and she smiled.

'I can think of something very delightful at this moment.'

    'You can, can you?'

    He smirked following Lizzy's smirk.

She only nodded and started to walk towards the staircase. Following her lead, he slowly walked up the stairs and once she was at the top, she held out her hand.

Giving his to her gently, Will smiled and enjoyed the touch of her hand.

Lizzy smiled and slightly blushed as she led him to the bedroom.

'Oh...' Will said as if realizing for the first time what she was intending.

    'Oh? Come here Will...'

Walking to the bed, Lizzy laid down and pulled Will to her.

    'Hold me.' She said.

Will needed no encouragement to do this, and did so.

Darkness filled the room with a touch of moonlight grazing the floorboards.

They laid next to each other for a long while until Will asked if something was wrong.

Lizzy took a moment to answer.

    'Nick and Rachel split up.'

Will almost tensed up when he heard her but kept his hold on her relaxed. He had to play the words again through his mind to make sure he heard her right.

'Rachel hmm...that's Nick's wife.' Will thought and then when Lizzy turned around in his arms, he looked at her with a curious concern.

'Sweetie I'm sorry. Sorry to hear that things aren't working out for them.'

'I know Will. I'm just shocked. He loves her and I know she loves him. Those kids...how awful I feel for them. They just have to work this out!' Lizzy said with despair.

Will gently rubbed her back and put his forehead to hers.

'They will my love. I don't think they want this, but time apart may prove to be necessary in understanding how they need to work things out. I'm sure if they give it time, they will be able to get back on track.'

Lizzy hoped he was right. With all the weddings to take place, a divorce was definitely not in the cards Lizzy wanted dealt. She prayed for it to work out and soon.

Will softly kissed her forehead and her cheeks and then moved slowly to her mouth.

Lizzy softly moaned against his mouth and leaned further into his kiss.

'I've missed you.' She breathed close to his mouth.

Without saying anything, Will's hunger for her grew deeper and soon his mouth covered his.

After a few minutes, Will pulled back and smiled.

'I've missed you as well my love...very much.'

    Chapter 34

Lizzy's arms and legs felt heavy when she woke up Sunday morning alone in bed.

Yearning for more sleep and not wanting to wake up, she turned her head to the alarm clock on the nightstand and groaned when she learned it was only 8.30.

After trying to sleep another hour and failing, she got up ten minutes later and padded into the hallway and down the stairs to the kitchen.

Groggily finding Will standing over the stove, she turned to the living room and laid down on the couch.

Will turned from the stove and smiled when he saw Lizzy laying down. Turning the heat down from his bacon and eggs, Will went to Lizzy's side and sat on the edge of the couch caressing her arms and face.

    'Good morning Beautiful. Tired?'

Nodding and closing her eyes, she snuggled up on the cushions and put a throw pillow under her head.

'I couldn't sleep after I saw the time.'

'Well I think the proper answer is that you couldn't sleep because I wasn't next to you.'

Lizzy grinned sleepily and slightly nodded.

    'Is Nick up?'

'Yes, he's on the phone in my office. I believe he's talking to Rachel.'

Lizzy's right eye popped open and she scanned Will's smile.

'Good talk I hope. I can't believe they're having trouble.'

Will tried to smile and then kissed her shoulder.

'All couples have hard times. Don't worry...they'll be fine. Would you like something to drink? I'm making breakfast right now.'

Lizzy agreed to some tea and Will went to make it.

Will sat down again next to Lizzy as she sat up to take the cup into her hands and slowly sip the warm herbal goodness.

'What did you want to do today?' Will asked pulling Lizzy's legs over his lap.

'Hmm...unpack my stuff and then lounge around. I was thinking we could watch some movies later. What do you think?'

Will just nodded and then noticed Nick walking into the living room.

Lizzy looked up to see her brother holding a small grin on his face.

'What's up? What did you talk about?' Lizzy asked while Nick sat in a nearby chair.

Before answering his sister, Nick let out a deep sigh followed by a slight chuckle.

'I just got off the phone with Rachel. Seems that she wants to see me.'

'About what? Did you two figure anything out?'

'Lizzy...hold on a minute please.' Nick began with a small smile forming on his lips. He then looked at Will.

'Would you mind if I had some breakfast before I take my leave? I have a long drive ahead of me.'

'Where are you going?' Lizzy asked getting excited at wanting to know what was talked about.

'Sure thing Nick, let me prepare a plate.'

As Will went to the stove to serve breakfast for everyone, Nick looked at Lizzy and smiled.

'Lizzy, my sweet sister, listen to me and listen well. I've been on the phone with my wife for the past hour and forty-five minutes talking about our whole relationship these past few years. I can't tell you everything of what we've said, but I can tell you that I have a game plan as to winning her back.'

Lizzy's brow furrowed in confusion and annoyance at her brother not being straightforward with her.

'Nick tell me what's going on.'

'Rachel doesn't want me to leave, but she doesn't want the situation we're in to get any worse. She asked me to see her this afternoon and have dinner with the kids and her mom and dad.'

'That's great news!' Lizzy said in a happy tone and all the while wondering why he couldn't have just said that.

'Yes it is, but there's more. She wants to move back home soon, but she refuses to move back home if I'm not there less than eight hours a night including sleep. Basically because I'm mostly there to sleep and change and hardly ever there to be with my wife and kids. This was the first conversation we've had in a very long time. A real conversation.'

'You seem pleased with how it went.' Will said as he handed Nick a plate.

Nick started to get up to move into the dining room, but Will waved him down.

'No no please, make yourself comfortable.' Will said and then sat down himself handing Lizzy a plate and then enjoying his own.

Nick then replied to Will's comment happily saying,

'I am. I can't tell you how good it felt just to talk to her again. About anything...everything! It was a real eye opener just like her staying with her parents is. I plan to change this.'

Lizzy didn't say anything. She didn't want to. Her thoughts were too far away into the realm of what if it didn't work out.

She hoped and prayed that it would work out for her brother and sister-in-law, but it just seemed too easy. Too simple to work out.

'This is good Will.' Nick said brightly.

Will grinned while scooping a bite onto his fork.

'Will's a wonderful cook, which is great because I don't cook very well.'

Will looked over at Lizzy and gave her an amused look.

'I'm sure you will be great once we teach you properly.'

Lizzy stuck her tongue out and then after finishing her meal, went to take a shower.

Lizzy felt accomplished when she put the last empty box in the garage. Letting out a sigh, she heard the sound of running water and went to investigate.

As she walked through the garage, she reached the end seeing Will with a hose spraying her truck.

What she noticed more was him in a white T-shirt that was half wet and with navy blue basketball shorts on.

'What are you doing?' Lizzy asked as she came closer to him.

    'Washing your truck.'

'You wash cars?' Lizzy asked dumbfound.

    Will smiled and nodded.

'It's a chore of accomplishment. It also relaxes me. I'm almost done. Then I'll park it in the garage.'

Lizzy turned around to look into the garage. It had four available spots, two of which were taken by Will's BMW and Range Rover.

'Who takes the other car stall?' Lizzy asked.

Will turned his head to see where she was talking about and after a quick mental calculation of where each car was being placed, he replied.

'Georgie usually takes the far left stall. I'm going to put the Rover in the stall next to hers and then you and I will use the first two.'

    'Georgie has a car here?'

'Well yes and no. She has a car, her own back at Pemberley, but while she's here, she uses Richard's car. He has two vehicles that he hardly uses so he basically gave her one while she was here.'

'Where is it?' Lizzy asked as she leaned against the porch railing.

'She leaves it at this place. He lives much closer to the airport than I do. So when she arrives then she stops by his place and picks it up.'

'Ahh...' Lizzy watched him dry off her truck and after he was finished, he pulled her truck into the garage.

As he was cleaning up, he looked up at Lizzy giving her a thoughtful gaze.

    'Did you talk to Nick?'

Lizzy looked at the driveway and kicked at an invisible rock.

'Yeah he called me about twenty minutes ago. He said he was just about to meet Rachel and that he had a good feeling about everything. Said he would call again later.'

'Hmm. Well we just need to let them work it out.' Will said as he lifted the wrapped up hose and the cleaned out bucket and placed them in their spots in the garage.

When he emerged from cleaning up, Lizzy started towards the door and Will came up behind her.

'Did you finish everything in here?' Will asked as they walked inside.

'Yeah I did,' Lizzy said with a sigh,' I'm tired now though.'

'Hungry?' Will asked as he went to the kitchen to get a glass of water.

Lizzy shook her head and flopped onto the sofa.

After a few moments of Will chugging water and Lizzy laying down on the sofa, Will softly gasped for air and then put the glass in the dishwasher.

'How about I change and you go upstairs and pick out a movie for us to watch. I'm sure we could do with some rest.'

Smiling softly, Lizzy got off the sofa and followed Will upstairs leaving him at the top of the stairway to go into the media room and him to the bedroom.

By the time Lizzy found a movie and got it started, Will made his entrance.

Seeking only to hold her, Will gently placed Lizzy into his arms as they both laid on the couch watching the movie she chose.

By the time it was halfway through, Will did an eye check to see if Lizzy was asleep, but she wasn't. She was merely watching the screen like a content child.

    'Tired love?' Will whispered.

It took a moment for Lizzy to respond.

    'No.'

    'Want some popcorn?' Will asked.

'Yes.' She said never moving her eyes from the screen.

Will softly chuckled and moved her slowly and carefully to the side so he could make them a snack.

As Will went to the kitchen, Lizzy laid there watching the paused screen feeling tired and a bit hungry.

Just a minute later, her phone rang and lazily she picked it up from the coffee table and pressed the answer button.

    'Hello?' She answered sleepily.

    'Lizzy! It's Marianne.'

'Hi Marianne. What are you up to?'

'Oh nothing. Just wondering how everything is going with the move?'

Lizzy smiled and sat up on the couch.

'Everything's done. We were just taking a break from watching a movie.'

'A break eh?' Marianne said pointedly.

'Oh very funny. Yes Will's making a snack right now.'

'Heh heh I see. Well what are you two doing next week? Hmm Thursday?'

Lizzy sighed at having to use her brain.

'Oh I don't know Mari, probably nothing why? What are you cooking up now?'

    Marianne giggled a bit.

'Oh Lizzy wake up! I wanted to know if you two would like to go out to dinner with Robert and me.'

'Hmm...I'll have to get back to you. I just want to make sure I coordinate with Will.'

'Okay then. Anything else going on?'

Lizzy thought a moment and decided against telling Marianne about Nick and Rachel and instead declined.

'Nothing right now. I mean, nothing I care to explain right now. I'm too tired.'

'Well that's understandable I think. Would you like to do lunch on Tuesday? I'm free for a little bit and it's around your lunch time.'

'Hmm yeah that works. Just call me in the morning.'

'Okay will do; and let me know about dinner. Say hi to Will for us.'

Lizzy clicked off right as Will entered the room with a tray of drinks and popcorn.

'I also had a bag of peanut M&Ms for you.'

Lizzy melted at the affectionate display he prepared for them and instantly felt awake at the gesture.

'Aww thank you Sweetie. Come here, sit next to me.'

Cuddling together, they continued the movie and snacked. After another movie, the sun started to set and instead of watching a third, they both decided to take a walk around the backyard.

'I'm so happy with you living here. I hope you are too.' Will said as he held Lizzy's hand in his own.

Lizzy smiled as she walked with him.

'I am happy here, though it has only been for one day full time. I will be even happier when Jack comes to live with us. You still okay with him here?'

Will almost laughed at her but smiled instead.

'Of course I am! You silly goose,' He said teasingly, ' I have come to grow very fond of Captain Jack Sparrow.' Will said in his best Captain Jack Sparrow accent he could muster, and he did fairly well.

Lizzy laughed and felt herself closer to Will's side as he tugged her closer.

'Good I'm glad to hear it then. I wouldn't want you jealous with all the attention I give Jack.'

'Now madam I would never be jealous of Jack. I understand the affection you give him, but I'm more interested in the attention and affection you give me.' he said letting a low growl escape towards her ear while Lizzy let her head fall back at Will's ability to be relaxed in her company.

'Oh Will. Let's go back inside. It's growing late and we will I need to be up early tomorrow for work.'

Reluctantly, they both headed back inside and called it a night. Will was more tired than he thought and as soon as his head hit the pillow, he was out. While Lizzy finished getting ready, she turned off the light and headed towards the bed only to stop and sigh at seeing Will so content in his sleep.

Chuckling a bit to herself, she slipped under the covers and folded her feet under her while she draped her arms around Will and smiled.

'Truly I am happy.' She whispered to herself. Smiling she too fell asleep next to Will.

'According to Robert and his understanding of things, pretty much everyone invited to the wedding will be attending. We were talking the other night about how we should meet with Will again just to make sure everything goes smoothly. I also need to get my time in for the wedding and honeymoon.'

    Lizzy smiled at Marianne's excitement.

'I don't think we have anything to really go over except now we need to get the men fitted for their tuxes and we need to get you girls fitted again for your dresses. We should probably do that next month and then again just before we leave. I know Will has a tailor for the men he is hiring for the wedding and I recommended he find a seamstress too, just in case anything happens.'

'Which I highly doubt will. But it's a good idea to have the staff on hand should anything arise.' Lizzy said getting a word in before Marianne fired again.

Marianne nodded and then after a quick bite of her salad, she started again.

'I have hardly anything to think or worry about; which actually worries me a bit because I feel useless and this is my wedding!'

Lizzy had to laugh at her friend for thinking such a thing.

'I can understand why you would think that, but really Marianne, you had everything thought of before Will offered. Besides, you should be thinking about other things. Have you registered yet?'

Marianne's mind clicked into action about pre-wedding things she didn't think about.

'Oh my goodness. You're right. I don't think we have. Oooh! That will give me something to worry about. Thanks Lizzy.'

    'Anytime.'

'Oh! Have you found out when Georgie is coming?'

'Where? Here?' Lizzy asked and receiving a nod, she furrowed her brow.

'Hmm no. But I think I'll call her and ask. I'd love to have her stay the summer.'

'She's wonderful. I wonder if she would like to help me teach some music lessons this summer. I set up a few sessions with some children at school and since Georgie excels at the subject I was hoping she wouldn't mind volunteering.'

Lizzy took a drink from her water glass as she thought about it.

'I think it would do her some good. She is very talented just like you, and you two get along well. When she comes into town you should mention it to her.'

'Oh I will. ' Marianne answered confidently.

After finishing lunch, Lizzy sat back in her chair and sighed.

'What's wrong?' Marianne asked as she paid the bill.

    'Nothing. I'm just tired.'

'Geesh Lizzy you were tired Sunday and now it's Tuesday and you're tired again? Are you sick?'

Lizzy stretched while stating the negative.

'Well get more sleep at nig---oh...are you staying up too late?' Marianne asked slyly.

'Oh hush! I am not. I'm just tired. I've had a long morning and it seems this will be an even longer week.'

'We'd better get going.' Marianne said as they stood up from the table.

Walking out of the restaurant, Lizzy yawned.

'You really are tired. Why don't you just go home? Get some sleep.'

    Lizzy laughed sarcastically.

'Right I'll just go to John and say, ' John, I'm going home. I'm tired.' Yeah then the next thing you know I'm being laughed at.'

'Well Will does own the company. I'm sure you could go home without any laughing.'

'Let's not talk about sleep. It's making me want to doze off right here on the street.'

Marianne now laughed and as they both walked to Marianne's car.

    'Well it's a good thing I'm driving.'

As Marianne pulled up to Lizzy's building, Lizzy sighed.

    'What's wrong now?'

'Nothing I just...don't want to go back in there.'

'Ooo is Caroline giving you a hard time? Let me in there...I'll let her have it.'

'No no...she's not even here today. She took the week off; which I'm glad about because I can just hear the slights coming from her about how Jane's place was so horrible.'

'Isn't she getting a new job?'

'Charles is in the process of moving her to another department. It's nice that I won't have to work with her anymore, but it's also kind of embarrassing that she is being moved because of her behavior.'

'Oh gosh why? She doesn't treat anyone with respect, only condescension. She's rude and ridiculous, I can't stand her. She doesn't need to ruin the happiness of others for her own.'

Lizzy grinned and started to get out of the car.

    'Thanks for lunch.'

    Marianne smiled and sighed.

'Anytime Sweetie. Call me later okay?'

Lizzy nodded while shutting the door and turned around to go back inside.

On her way in, Charles walked out.

'Lizzy! Are you just back from lunch?'

'Oh hi Charles. Yeah Marianne just dropped me off. Are you heading out?'

    'Yes I have a meeting in D.C.'

'Right. Okay well I have to get back to work. See you later Charles.'

    'Bye Lizzy!'

Before she walked through the second set of doors, Charles's hand grabbed her arm.

'Sorry Lizzy but I forgot to tell you. Richard's back in town. He's coming over for dinner tomorrow night. Will you and Will come?'

Lizzy smiled at the name of Richard and nodded.

    'We'll be there!'

    'Great. See you then!'

Will was in a sour mood. Richard was back in town. He was away on business and now he was back. From what his message said it sounded like it was for good.

Unable to shake the bitter taste in his mouth of his cousin back in town, Will called Georgie.

    'Ello?'

    'Georgie it's me.'

    'Will! How are you?'

    'Hmm...'

'That doesn't sound good. What's up with you?'

    'Richard's in town.'

'Really? That's great! Now I can see him when I get out there, which reminds me... Since I'm done with school now, how about me flying over there next week? I can stay until late August.'

'Will you make it to the wedding?' Will asked fatherly.

'Oh sure. I'll work it out.' She replied.

'Well sure you can come out next week. Are you at Pemberley now?'

'No I'm still in Cambridge. I want to stay here until I leave. Closer to the airport and all that.'

'Well just let me know when you'll be home so I can tell Lizzy and get the house ready.'

'Lizzy moved in fine and everything?' Georgie asked probing her brother for information.

'Yes. We finished on Sunday.' Will said distantly.

'How has it been living with her?'

'Wonderful.' Will sighed feeling better at the thought that Lizzy lived with him completely.

'Good! I'm glad to hear it. I can't wait to see everyone again.'

'We can't wait to see you either sweetie.' He replied softly.

    'Something wrong Will?'

'Hmm nothing. I just have something on my mind.'

'Uh huh. Well you know...with Richard in town, I could stay at his place if you want. Give you time with Lizzy.'

'No no Georgie. My home is your home too, and I'm sure Lizzy would have my head if you didn't stay with us.'

Georgie laughed as Will continued with his thinking.

'Okay well, I'll call you later this week and let you know the details. Tell Lizzy I said hello. Love you Will!'

    'Love you too Georgie.'

After he got off the phone with Georgie, Will decided to call it a day and head home.

'Does he know that Will and I are together Jane?'

'I don't think so. Why does it matter?'

Lizzy signaled her turn as she held her phone closer to her ear.

'It doesn't really. I just...well Richard and I haven't talked in a really long time and I think he believes Eliot and I are still together.'

'Well tomorrow night you can let him know. I'm sure Charles hasn't said anything. Maybe Will has.'

Lizzy frowned and made her turn.

'I don't think so. Something tells me it bothers Will about what Richard and I had, even though it was completely friendly...well sort of.'

'I'm sure it will be fine. Are you almost to the house?'

'Yeah and it looks like Lydia has her normal weird friends over. Listen I'll let you go. I'll talk to you later.'

Lizzy hung up and parked her truck out front from her parents' house. Noticing everyone was there, including some random cars that Lizzy pegged as Lydia's friends, she casually walked in through the back door and was greeted with loud voices shouting at the TV, 'Yup, Lydia and her friends.' Kitty was with them too shouting along at the three kids playing a video game.

'Hi to you too.' Lizzy mumbled as she walked past them and into her father's den.

    'Hi dad.'

Tom Bennet looked up from his book and smiled.

'Lizzy! Wonderful to see you. Here to pick up Jack?'

At the sound of his name, Jack got up and wagged his tail as he made his way over to Lizzy from Tom's feet.

'Yeah I am. Hi Jack...I missed you. Ready to go home?'

Jack wagged his tail and yipped a bit while he stayed by her side. Before leaving, Lizzy went to her dad and gave him a warm hug.

    'How've you been?'

    Tom sighed.

'Busy with work, but I have a chance now to catch up on some reading. Your mother is out picking up dinner for the noisy crew in the living room.'

'I don't know how you can stand them.'

'That's the reason for my den. I can't stand them, but it allows me to keep a watchful eye on your younger sisters. How is the new place? Jane told your mother yesterday that she is very happy and at ease living without Caroline and with Charles. Although I know you both miss each other.'

    Lizzy sighed.

'I'm just the same. Although I never had to deal with Caroline like Jane has, I still am equally happy. Thanks for taking care of Jack while we were getting settled. I'm sure he is going to love it. You should come by sometime and see the place, Dad.'

    Tom smiled and nodded.

'We will. Now you better run along before your mother comes home and wants juicy details.'

After gathering Jack's things, Tom walked his daughter to the front door so not to shout over the noisy company and bid his daughter a heartfelt goodbye.

    'Let's go home Jack.'

Lizzy piled Jack and his things in her truck and headed home.

As Lizzy entered the house, Jack seemed a bit shy. As soon as he saw Will though, he was happy.

'I'm going to take him out back to see how he likes it. Want to come with?' Lizzy asked as Jack followed her to the back door.

Will joined them and didn't say a word.

As Jack ran around the back yard getting used to his new home, Lizzy looked over at Will who was silent since she came home.

    'What's the matter?'

Will shook his head slightly and smiled.

'Nothing, why would something be wrong?'

'You haven't said anything since I've been home. No 'Hello how are you? How was your day?' You usually say something when I come home.'

'Sorry my love. I guess I have things on my mind. How are you though?'

Lizzy looked at him for a long moment then smiled.

'I'm fine. Glad to be home and have Jack here.'

'Good good. Hungry? I made dinner, it's almost ready.'

    'Yes thank you.'

Lizzy then called for Jack and as Will was finishing up dinner, Lizzy went upstairs to change.

When she came back down, she went into the kitchen where Will was serving their food and grabbed herself a glass for water.

'I saw Charles today. He said that we are to come to dinner tomorrow night.'

    'I know.' Will said shortly.

Lizzy, dismissing his curt answer, continued.

'Yeah, so Richard is in town and will be over for dinner tomorrow night.'

Will said nothing as Lizzy followed him into the dining room with her glass of water.

'Jane said that it's going to be casual, so after we get home we can just ride over there. Sound good?'

    Will nodded and began eating.

Lizzy was intent on watching him say nothing and act as though nothing was bothering him when clearly something was.

'Aren't you hungry?' Will said after a few minutes of silence.

Without answering his question, Lizzy leaned forward in her chair and folded her arms onto the table.

'Will, tell me something, is Richard's return to town bothering you for some reason?'

Will put his utensils down and took a sip of his water. He then looked at her as if offended at her question.

'It's just a question Will.' Lizzy said determined to keep calm.

'Elizabeth I have nothing to be upset over. Richard being in town is...is...is fine; absolutely fine. I haven't seen him in many months, so it will be good to see him again. Why do you think something is wrong? We will go to dinner tomorrow night and we will have a wonderful time okay?' Will said with a voice of annoyance.

Instead of hiding her annoyance at his response, Lizzy tried not to laugh. Of course she was annoyed at his blatant lie of being upset, but he was adorable when he was moody and upset.

    'Nothing is funny Elizabeth.'

'Ooo nothing is funny? And using my full name too. Come on Will I know something is bothering you.'

    'Are you mocking me?'

'I'm sorry Will truly I am. I just find you adorable when you get like this.'

'I wish I could find the humor you do, but I can't. Excuse me.'

Will then left the dinner table and went to his study.

Lizzy looked down at Jack and shrugged.

'Guess we'll find out in time.'

After Lizzy ate her dinner, cleaned up the dining room and kitchen, she went upstairs to the media room and watched a few of her favorite TV shows. By the time it was ten o'clock, Will still did not come out from his office. Debating on whether or not to check on him, Lizzy decided to let Jack out and then check on him.

'Come on boy.' Lizzy called as she waited for Jack to follow her.

Once she was downstairs, she let Jack out and after he finished, she headed towards Will's office.

Knocking on the door softly and hearing nothing, she slowly opened the door.

Will was nowhere to be seen. She then checked the library and seeing he was looking at the empty fireplace she walked towards him.

    'Will... I'm sorry for earlier.'

Will slightly turned to see her and then looked back.

'It's nothing. Please I'm sorry for what happened earlier.'

'It...it's okay. Let's just...let's try and have a good time tomorrow. You have nothing to worry about. If there is anything you are worrying about that is.'

Will finally turned around and saw Lizzy standing there searching his eyes for anything he would give.

His lips softened and he smiled.

'Come on, let's not think about this anymore. I'm just being ridiculous. '

Taking his arm and draping it over her shoulders, they both went upstairs. As soon as Will hit the pillows, he was out for a much needed rest.

'What's with you? You've been absent minded the whole time we've been driving to Charles and Jane's.' Lizzy asked as Will turned the corner to the residential area.

'Nothing is wrong. I'm just hungry.'

'Well did you eat lunch?' Lizzy asked as she looked at him.

    'Uh no I didn't.'

As they turned onto the street of Charles' house, Will did a quick check to see that Richard's car wasn't there. Yet.

'Well I'm sure we'll eat as soon as Richard gets here. Now stop fussing and let's go inside. Are you sure you're okay?' Lizzy asked one final time.

Will nodded and shut the engine off.

'Okay.' Lizzy said and they both exited the car and walked to the front door.

'Lizzy! Will! Come in come in.' Jane cried as she opened the front door and hugged her sister and good friend.

'You two are right on time. I know that Richard will be coming shortly. He just had to pick up some wine according to Charles. In the meantime, let's sit outside. It's a beautiful night.'

Following Jane onto the back balcony, Lizzy and Will sat down and were greeted soon by Charles.

'Welcome you two! Wonderful night. Jane's having me grill hamburgers and brats, Oh! and roasted corn. Taught me last weekend. How are you?'

Charles' smile was bright as he placed the food onto the grill under Jane's watchful eye.

'We're fine. A bit tired from work but good just the same.'

'Wonderful! Will, would you like a drink or anything? Lizzy?'

'I'll wait for the wine Richard's bringing.' Lizzy said as Will scowled and shook his head.

'Great. Well Lizzy, would you like to help me in the kitchen? I have to bring out the salad.'

As the women left, Will sat back and closed his eyes.

'Anything the matter chap?' Charles asked as he closed the grill.

    'Hmm? Nothing Charles.'

'Ahh well I hope you have nothing in regards to Richard being by. I told him you two would be here tonight and he seemed very excited to see you two.'

'I'm sure.' Will said under his breath.

The women joined them after a short while and as Lizzy sat down, the doorbell rang.

'Oh I'll get it!' Charles said as he left the balcony.

Will sat up straight and watched the open door to see if he could spot Richard. Lizzy got up as she forgot the dressing.

Charles and Richard came out onto the balcony with wide smiles.

'Well well if it isn't my strapping cousin! How are you Will?'

'Richard. Good to see you.' Will said as he sat back a bit.

'Ahh and this is Jane. You look lovely. No wonder Charles is getting married. He told me you were beautiful, but I can see now that you are much more than that.'

Looking around, Richard seemed to be missing someone in the count.

    'Is Lizzy here?'

'Uh yes she is.' Jane started,' she's in the kitchen getting-'

'Getting the dressing. Hello Richard!' Lizzy said brightly.

Richard turned around and saw her putting the dressing down on the table. As soon as her hands were free, he took her up into a big hug.

    'Lizzy...my lovely girl!'

'Good to see you Richard. How are you?'

He didn't respond right away. Instead he gazed into her eyes. After a moment or two he let out a deep breath and sighed.

    'Lizzy...can I talk with you a moment?'

Unsure as to what was going on, Lizzy bit her lip and then nodded.

Richard took her hand and walked into the kitchen.

'I heard about Eliot. I'm so sorry.'

    'You did?'

'Yes. But I can't say I'm too sorry. He was a jerk to you. Now that you two are no more, oh Lizzy, I've been thinking about you constantly. I'm so sorry we fell out of touch. Can you forgive me?'

Lizzy looked at him and tried to smile.

'Richard, of course I forgive you. It's okay. I know you've been busy with work.'

'Yes, but I wasn't there for you when you two broke up. It's been too long.'

'Right it has, but I've been doing very well. Things have happened.'

'Yes! Yes they have happened. And now...now that,' Richard moved closer to Lizzy as he spoke,' now that you are free...I want us to try this right.'

Richard moved so close that Lizzy had her back to the counter.

    'Richard try what?'

'How don't you know? Lizzy...I'm in love with you?'

Without being able to respond, Richard pressed his lips hard against her own.

Trying to push away, Lizzy broke their kiss and as she opened her eyes to look at Richard, she saw Will in the doorway.
