Heartless In Hertfordshire

    By Ellen M & Bill

    Why he requests me to dance
    At the Netherfield Ball
    Is surely a deep mystery.
    His stares and proud strutting
    And contemptible muttering
    Affronts every social decree.
    He seems handsome to most
    (And forgivably rich)
    Groomed quite meticulously.
    Yet after much wandering
    And perspicuous pondering,
    I conclude most assiduously:
    A suitor with large treasure
    But small character measure
    Makes love fly away easily.
    Let him sup with the devil,
    I'll not sink to that level;
    He's not handsome enough to tempt me!
