Stop the Presses!

    By Katt

    Prologue

Taken from the Netherfield Gazette, serving Longbourn County, on September 21, 1997…

"In local news, Charles Bingley, a young businessman from the north, has entered into negotiations with Bennet and Co. to purchase the Netherfield Gazette. James Bennet, owner and business manager of the Gazette has decided to retire after thirty-five years in the newspaper business, twenty of those dedicated to the Gazette.

"'I've poured my heart and soul into this newspaper; I figure it's time to retire. I will miss the hum of the presses, but I'm getting too old to keep up with the reporting game,' Bennet, 57, said.

"Bingley was unavailable for comment, though it is known that he will be visiting the gazette next Thursday, September 27 to begin negotiations.

"Bennet plans to still be involved with the newspaper and his family will still hold positions on staff. His eldest daughter, Jane Bennet, is our features editor. Elizabeth Bennet is the assistant business manager as well as the editorial editor. Mary Bennet edits the front page and news sections and Catherine and Lydia Bennet write weekly columns on entertainment in and around Longbourn County.

    "Bennet will be sorely missed."
