The ballroom is now abandoned
The hill bereft of any lovers
The abbey stands stark and alone
And the ships refuse to come to shore
Now the Lady is no more
The pianoforte gathers dust
The singing quietly dies into a hollow echo
The ever elegant music all used for grief
And that lovely wit the cause of much mischief
Is silenced, as the Lady is no more
The fashionable satin is a shroud
The silk so coveted will she wear
The lovely muslin bound to rest the weary head
As they rest her in the cold eternal bed
Since the Lady is no more
Hugo, Hardy, Balzac people would cry
Surely they deserve more respect than this
One single woman who did nothing amiss
But you and I and those who live in this Land
Grieve and note this Day as the Lady is no more.
