Chapter 1
'What do you mean he's married?'
'Didn't you hear dear sister, Darcy married Anne de Bourgh yesterday?' Wickham said with a grin.
'No, I did not know. Well I guess that Lady Catherine got her wish.' Elizabeth said quietly.
'Yes she did. Well there is the carriage, I guess it is time for me and Mrs. Wickham to be leaving.' Wickham said walking over to where the rest of the family is. Elizabeth just stood there shocked and barley said anything the rest of the evening.
'I guess that is my answer to what he was doing when I left Derbyshire a week ago.' Elizabeth said to Jane after they retired. 'He doesn't care for me and wants nothing more to do with me.'
'But Lizzy, why does that bother you so? You never cared for him. I thought you would be relieved.' Jane said looking at her dearest sister.
'I am, well goodnight Jane.'
'Goodnight Elizabeth.'
Elizabeth went back into her room and cried herself to sleep. She knew why it bothered her. It bothered her because she loved him. Elizabeth realized that at Lambton, she knows now that he is the only man for her. Finally, when she realizes her one true love, she looses him forever.
Elizabeth awoke to greet the day with the same feelings of despair and hopelessness she had the night before. After getting dressed she decides to go for a walk. As she reached Oakham Mount she remembers the first time seeing him race across the field with Mr. Bingley. Elizabeth sat down for a bit admiring the view of Netherfield.
Her thoughts began to travel to him. Her meeting him at Pemberley unexpectedly, the evening she spent gazing at him and he at her. Oh he fooled her good, making her believing that he still loved her. Foolish, foolish! She silently cursed herself. Finally, she got up and started to head back when a rider caught her eye. She watched as the rider approached and gasped, it was Mr. Darcy.
Chapter 2
'Hello Miss Bennet.' Darcy cried getting off his horse.
'Good day Mr. Darcy.' Elizabeth said coldly. 'I thought that you were at Pemberley?'
'Um no. I left Pemberley shortly after you all departed.' He replied nervously.
'Oh. Well excuse me, I must return home. Good bye Mr. Darcy.' Elizabeth returned and began to walk away.
'Miss Bennet wait. I will walk back with you, actually I came in search of you.'
'In search of me?' Elizabeth replied puzzled.
'Yes, your sister said you were out walking and I came to find you.'
'And why would you do that sir?' Elizabeth replied quietly.
'I had to come and see you. I needed to know.'
'Know what Mr. Darcy?'
'Do you still hate me? Was I imaging everything that happened in Derbyshire?' Darcy said with a hopeful look in his eyes.
'Mr. Darcy please I beg you to stop this conversation at once. It is very improper of you to be doing so. And I will not allow myself to be hurt by it.' Elizabeth said walking away about in tears.
'Well now I know that what happen there was a lie. I should have known that you would always hate me.' Darcy said angry but with a hint of hurt in his voice. And with that he got on his horse and started to ride away.
Chapter 3
'I don't hate you. I love you Mr. Darcy and I always will.' Elizabeth replied quietly to herself. However, it was loud enough for him to hear.
'Then why are you doing this? Why are you pushing me away?' Darcy asked getting off his horse again and grabbing her arms.
'Because you know why. It is very improper of you doing this.' Elizabeth replied with tears in her eyes.
'Maybe it is something that you rich men do but I won't. I will not be anyone's Mistress!' She concluded yelling at him.
'Mistress? I don't understand Elizabeth. You wouldn't be my mistress; you would be my wife and the love of my life. You would be the only women for me always.' Darcy said quietly.
'But what of your wife?'
'My wife? I have no wife! I will never marry anyone but you, my dearest Elizabeth.'
'I don't understand, then you didn't marry Miss de Bourgh three days ago?'
'No I did not. Who told you otherwise?' Darcy replied while shaking his head.
'Oh my! I should have known. Once again he said a falseness against you and I believed him.'
'Wickham told you didn't he?' Darcy said, more of a statement than a question.
'Yes, before he and my sister left Longbourne yesterday.' Elizabeth replied quietly. 'Why would he do such a thing?'
'Probably because he knows how much I love you and he can't stand it. So he told you that knowing you would maybe believe him.' Darcy said taking her into his arms.
'I am so so sorry for everything. It was just your behavior after I told you about Lydia. I figured you would want nothing more to do with me.' Elizabeth replied crying into his coat. 'I think that it was at that moment I realized that I loved you.'
'I am sorry my love.' Darcy said kissing her forehead. 'I left like that so I could get back home and figure out what to do.'
'What to do?' Elizabeth asked puzzled.
Darcy spotted a log and motioned for them to sit. 'Yes, I left Pemberley a day after you to go to London and find them.'
'Then it was you who paid Wickham to marry Lydia.'
'Yes, I asked Mr. Gardiner to say that it was he because I didn't want you to know. I wanted you to love me for me. I didn't want your gratitude, I have wanted and still will always want your love.'
'And you have it, along with my thanks.' Elizabeth said reaching up to caress his cheek. He looked at her wonderful smile and her eyes shining with love in them, and he smiled.
'Dearest Elizabeth will you marry me and make me the happiest man alive?'
'Yes I will, for there is no one in the world whom I love more than you.' Elizabeth replied happily.
Darcy smiled and kissed her gently on the lips. When the lovers broke away, Elizabeth finally asked, 'is Mr. Bingley with you?'
'No. He will be here tomorrow, I told him the truth and he is coming as soon as he can to be with you sister.'
'Thank you Mr. Darcy, for everything.' Elizabeth replied smiling.
'You are most welcome, and my name is Fitzwilliam.' Darcy replied smiling.
'Fitzwilliam? Then thank you my dearest Fitzwilliam.' Elizabeth replied kissing him on the cheek.
'Shall we head back? I would like to speak to your father as soon as possible.'
'Yes we shall.' Elizabeth said standing up. She was surprised when Darcy grabbed her and placed her on his horse. 'What are you doing? Fitzwilliam dearest I don't ride.'
'It is simple, just hang on to me.' Darcy said laughing, getting on the horse behind her, wrapping one arm tightly around her. And that is how they headed back to Longbourne and Wickhams last attempt to hurt Darcy was forgotten.
