Simply Because

    I sit here wondering now
Why did you fall for a fool
Only a smile you would allow
And that dear, is the magic tool

    You raise you eyebrow here
And ask me how it was
For the truth you must hear
    I answer simply because...

In her eyes I could be
    As we ride on horseback
    Almost anything she sees
    Looking past things I lack

Without a word she can say
    Patience with tenderness will
    Gain the victory someday
    But, you silently wait until

    I can look past everything
To see what I yearn for
    Is riding alongside me
    Until I open that door

    She closes her coffee eyes
    To sit and patiently wait
    Knowing that her silent lies
    Could determine her only fate

But, I caught her quick glance
    As we ride here happily
Mind you, only once by chance
    Yet enough to show me

    What I would desperately give
To grasp the look once again
What a foolish notion that I live!
There is no way I could win

To know my name is spoken
    When I was innocent
    By this single token
    Leaving her I quickly went

How I do wish I could take
    The foolishness that was said
    Earning a sad longing ache
Recall your face when I fled

    We met one time again
    I was all confusion
    Is loving you a sin?
    Fate's tricks I keep losing
    Never any time to win

    Looking at two women now
Glancing at a gaffe and you
    Comparisons I will allow
Coffee and dull eyes of blue

    Nothing can ever now do
We are to walk away here
    Except the thought of you
    In my heart, never disappear

    We are riding together today
I am reminded again by you
Of our first ride along the way
A smile of coffee not blue

    Simply because I love
To feel your eyes on mine
    Feeling that we are one
    Knowing now, for all time

    As you ride on horseback
Smiles are graciously given by you
    Looking past things I lack
Elinor, I am in love with you.
