Your favourite Valancourt moments (Udolpho, SPOILERS)

Since we're on the topic of Udolpho LoLz, I was wondering --- does anybody else love Valancourt as much as I do, for pure comic potential? And what are your fave Valancourt moments?
Me, I'm undecided. I love Valancourt 'fessing up about his transgressions in Paris, I love how he fell victim to the 16th-century-version of the Nigerian Bank Account Scam and gave that rustic peasant woman all his money, but my favourite moment must be when he carved that dratted poem into the stone - in his own handwriting, no less!!
Whenever I feel rather down, I only have to think about the poem stone and I'm laughing again.
For a long time I thought Emily was the original Mary Sue, but I think it's actually Valancourt. He's more Mary Sue than anyone else could ever be.

It's supremely ridiculous. However, I have to say that I also just got a kick every time Radcliffe described how he would moon about after Emily, sighing and leaning out of windows and such. I pretty much picture Valancourt as the effeminate son in Monty Python and the Holy Grail who's always breaking into song.

But then again in these type of books I always skip over the poetry. (I know I know but its the only way I can survive).

I love your description of the "16th-century-version of the Nigerian Bank Account Scam" that was the bit where I think i smashed my head into something. I mean he was a totally chivalrous guy and then....he just....what?!

And I know it wasn't Valancourt but the actions of the prisoner that Emily just KNEW WAS HER BELOVED are hilarious because she just thought "Yeah this is something my love would do!"

So now we know who got the Sword into the Stone too. After carving an entire poem into a stone that must have been a piece of cake! ;)
