Gail Carriger - Parasol Protectorate

Poor library board, apparently it's been ages since anyone posted here ...

I don't know if anyone here has read the Parasol Protectorate series - if you haven't, it's a lighthearted, witty romp through a steampunk&fantasy Victorian London with werewolves, vampires, airships and the works. The author, unfortunately, doesn't have a very firm grip on the titles of nobility (which is a bit of a bother because one of the main characters has one of those and gets addressed all sorts of wrongly) but that is really the only irk I have with them. They're funny, engaging and very refreshingly, very positive towards non-heternormative gender representations and romances.

Anyway, for those who *have* read them, I have a question about the last (fifth) book, so, spoilers below.

*SPOILERS*

Why did the Egyptian vampire queen need Prudence or Alexia to touch her in order to die? Couldn't she just have had the Chancellor impale her (after all, it worked on Walsingham), or, since apparently she was on constant blood supplies, have him starve her? I get that pretty much the whole plot of the book would implode if Alexia didn't travel to Alexandria, but I don't get this part. Or is it that vampire queens cannot be impaled like other vampires?

I'd be glad if anyone knows or can make a guess!
