I've read the book some time ago, and I must say, I cannot really remember how it ended. So I'll have to agree with you, the ending wasn't all that magnificent (at least, it didn't make an impression).
Nice read, good enough to keep one of the streets (so to say) but nothing spectacular in my opinion.
