As to Bingley's honour being engaged or not, your reading may be quite correct although he danced the first and third dances with Jane, possibly the supper dance since they were together at supper and it seems possible that he danced with her again afterwards. Two definte and four possibles seems, for the tenor of the times, to be excessive when two dances was considered the maximum for most occasions - I admit a country ball may have been held to slightly lower standards than a Town ball.

I am quite willing to accept an immature (young) Bingley and certainly a modest one. That JA herself found nothing reprehensible in his behaviour speaks volumes I think.
