London was the center of the world for the upper class in England then. That was where all of fashionable society gathered, and where the best of everything was to be had. Yes, there were other English cities that could provide masters and amenities, but not really comparable to London, especially once it came time for the season. The Darcys had probably had a house in London for a long time, and yes, for the benefit of the society you could get there, because if you wanted to form or strengthen important connections, or to look for a husband or a wife, that was the best place to do it. Not to mention it was the center of government. Everywhere else paled in comparison. Since Darcy already had a house in London and apparently spent a lot of time there, it would make sense to have Georgiana near by, even if not under the same roof, so that they could spend time together, and she could be selectively introduced to those of his acquaintance as he thought appropriate. That doesn't necessarily mean that he couldn't have had a house somewhere else too, but the London house would have been the important one, the one that proved both his wealth and his status, and which enabled easy attendance during every London season.
