(I would have posted this thread in the Library board, but I wasn't sure anyone ever ventured there anymore - though I'd love it if we could get some action there again)
After very, very, VERRRRY much prompting from several people, I finally gave the Connie Willis Oxford Time Travel books a go last year, and loved, loved, loved them. (They told me that. Years ago. I should have known.)
Now, I have found, at my library, this series 'The Chronicles of St Mary's', which, apparently, has a very similar premise to Connie Willis' novels. Unfortunately, the first book in the series is 'not on the shelf' in the library, which means (I asked) that it has gone missing, unexplainably, and they don't know a thing. They said they'd notify me if they found it or bought it again, but so far, no luck, and after about half a year, I'm not really banking on it anymore. I put in the same request for two other books two and five years ago, and so far, nothing has happened.
Seeing as I normally try out new authors via the library, I'm a bit stumped now. On the one hand, Time-Travelling Historians are just my thing (I may have posted one or two threads to that effect in the Library Board, back in the day) - on the other hand, this one sounds so very similar to Connie Willis that I am afraid it will be a rip-off I'll hate.
Has anyone read them and can comment? Amazon tells me there are seven now or more in the series, so is it a series one wants to get hooked on?
Thanks for your input!
