I agree it is yet another indictment of Mr. Bennet as a father that he failed go after Bingley once the man left town. In fact, I can see a plot bunny in which Mr. Bennet grows a pair and goes to London for a quiet talk with Bingley. I am sure they would both want to avoid scandal but what could be the harm in Mr. Bennet speaking privately to Bingley? Hmmm.
Mrs. Bennet is usually thought of as a silly joke but a case can be made that Mr. Bennet was a dangerously bad father. I have opened a topic in the Tea Room on Bingley but this aspect of Jilted Jane might also be discussed there.
