Hey, don't worry - and do not feel the need to apologize (least of all for an epilogue which we still have to read).
YOU wrote a great story, and the fact that there is a bit of an outpoor of 'emotion' (like disappointment) on the story's resolution is, IMO, testimony to the fact that you have really engaged your readers! Besides, isn't putting people on the wrong foor one of the characteristics of an entertaining story?
