I enjoyed seeing things continue so nicely for ODC, proud of their offering deference to the general, which had done much to soften his heart and opinion. They did so most admirably. He likes to hear himself talk, seemingly knowing best, and Catherine allows it, even taking notes. Loved that one! You’ve shown a plethora of ways she has grown; another one seen is her realization that she could even receive the captain’s company at dinner with equanimity had he been well enough to join them.

Your chapters are packed full of so many things to admire. Out of everything I highlighted, I’ve chosen this:

The edifice would never be a mere abbey to her again, or indeed only Henry's place of origin: in a very real sense, it now belonged to her as well.

This sums it up so nicely and captures the blossoming of her maturity and graciousness. She is now an integral part of Henry’s noble heritage, not just in the legality of marriage, but in the loving deeds and sacrifices imparted by the heart, body, and mind, yoking her to them in an almost inexplicable transcendence.

As for this chapter’s ending, it was thrilling to see them home again to the warmth of their own hearth, and the conclusion is simply sublime.
