Is that an American convention? It isn't used in my version of P&P and I'm attempting to follow the conventions there as closely as possible, except that I have gotten lazy and I'm calling Elizabeth 'Lizzy', Mr Darcy 'Darcy', etc, as I can't be bothered typing out full names all the time.
In Australia, the only time we put a '.' after something is of it is shortened, it the Hon. Mr/Ms x.
