This is not specific to this story, but I've found that some of the misunderstandings Jane Austen wrote were more to do with human nature (being what it is) and therefore, although people can read the books, they can't always learn from them, because human nature can always override knowledge.

From a writing perspective, stories without conflict of any sort tend to be rather short. winking smiley
